Welcome Parents

Welcome to my weekly blog about the Grade  3 class.  On this page I will be giving information about what is happening in class, as well as posting some assignments that you can print off at home (paper copies will be provided to all students; however, they sometimes go missing before making it home).

Home Support

Every week students will be given a list of spelling words, a Bible Memory Verse (BMV),  and will be expected to read for 20 min daily as part of their home reading.  Any assignments that are not completed in class will also be brought home to complete.  We appreciate and need the support of parents to reinforce learning in the classroom by assisting students at home with these weekly tasks to develop good study and learning habits.

Tests

There will be weekly spelling tests as well as occasional tests in other subjects.  All tests will be sent home to be signed by parents, corrected and then returned to school.  This is one of the ways I will keep you updated on each students academic performance.

•  phone the office and leave a message.  I will return the call after school is over when time allows.  Please call the office if you need to schedule time before or after school to talk with me one on one.

Heathy Classroom Notes

• Please make sure to bring a water bottle to class, we have a classroom fountain but it is not filtered water and water bottles can easily be refilled using the upstairs refill station that is filtered.
• Students may bring in their own ear buds or headphones for the use of computers in class. There is a school set available for use; however, the school set is used by multiple students from different grades and is not easily sanitized.
• Please do not bring in any toys or stuffed animals to class.
• Please consider having a sweater/jacket and hat available to leave at school, as we will be spending more time learning outside (especially during nice weather).

Math Test - Date to be decided based on current lessons

Thursday - Science test on changes to the earth from wind, water and ice.

This Week

Welcome to the weekly Grade 3 blog. Each week I will be giving a brief summary of what students will be learning and working on, as well information on events and activities for that week. 

Bible memory Verse -  Matthew 22:37-39

³⁷ Jesus replied: â€œâ€˜Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’^{[] 38} This is the first and greatest commandment. ³⁹ And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

We will have a day or two to learn about money before having a test review, I'm hoping to have the Math test either Thursday or Friday this week. There will be adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and money with related word problems for each.

For writing students will complete the poem they are currently working on. I'm hoping to have all the "I Am" poems finished this week. Some students are also working on rhyming couplets and for those that are finished I'll be teaching an optional poem about Onomatopoeia.

Social Studies will continue with First Nations peoples of Canada. This term we're learning about the Inuit in the Canadian Arctic.  We will learn about Inuit games this class. Games were used to teach important skills as well as to pass the time.

For Science we have our final unit test on how wind and water change the land, this week. Questions will be based on both information and activities in class over the past couple months. Topics include weathering, erosion and deposition by wind water and ice.

Family Project - Students should have already completed the "all about me" page and written a story about themselves for their project. This week, students will conduct their first "interview" where they will choose a family member to find out information about them and also write a true story from when that person was a child.

Wednesday -first spelling test for this term

This Week

Welcome to the weekly Grade 3 blog. Each week I will be giving a brief summary of what students will be learning and working on, as well information on events and activities for that week. 

Bible memory Verse -  Ephesians 6:1-3

This week in Math we will be looking at shapes to see if they are congruent, similar, or different. We will be using this language as we continue to compare and observe shapes.

For writing students will begin to write their first paragraph. We will start with a simple paragraph where the student will choose to tell us about an animal of their choice

In Science we will be learning about ecosystems. This week we will look at classifying both living (plants and animals) and non living things (air, sunlight, water) in the ecosystem and see how they are both important for living things to survive.

We will be working on both family stories and family trees this week in class. Please remember to bring your family project duo-tang to class everyday this week.

This week in Math we are starting our unit on mapping. Students will learn the parts of a map and practice using maps to follow and give directions.

For writing students will begin to write their first paragraph. We will start with a simple paragraph where the student will choose to tell us about an animal of their choice

Family Project - Students should now have information and a story from both themselves and two adults from their family. This week they should be getting information from their fourth family member. We will be working on both family stories and family trees this week in class. Please remember to bring your family project duo-tang to class everyday this week.

Wednesday - spelling test

This Week

Welcome to the weekly Grade 3 blog. Each week I will be giving a brief summary of what students will be learning and working on, as well information on events and activities for that week. 

Bible memory Verse -  Proverbs 9:9

Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still;
    teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.

This week in Math we are starting our unit on measurement. First up will be looking at standard measurement units (mm, cm, dm, m, km). Then we'll learn about perimeter and area.

For writing students will continue to type out their family stories. Those that forget to bring a story to class on Tuesday will work on their second paragraph.

In Science we will be learning about ecosystems. This week we will look at producers. Producers are plants and they "produce" their own food using air, water and sunlight. Plants are the foundation of the food chain (which we will be learning about next)
